Setting up a bsnl huawei quidway modem for wireless access

huawei hauwei huawie bsnl wireless wifi wi-fi internet configuration dhcp WA1003A set up unlimited default quidway qiudway

Though I came across several blogs describing setting up a bsnl internet connection using a wireless router , there were none describing how to do it for the quidway WA1003A which bsnl gives as a type IV modem with a inbuilt router....

It's actually a very simple process....

first you are going to need your bsnl login details for this one, so keep it handy

Heres the step by step process...

STEP 1: Reset the modem
This can be done by putting a pointed object (i found a normal safety pin good enough) into the hole at the rear of the modem (near the hole for power adapter) , and poke the pin or whateva and hold for a 10-15 secs with the power on, you should see the lights go off and come back on..

skip step two , if you are connecting through wireless
STEP 2: Setup your LAN card (if you have your modem connected via lan else SKIP this step)
DO THIS ONLY IF YOU HAVE USED YOUR LAN CABLE TO CONNECT THE MODEM
goto the properties page of you card and set ip as 192.168.1.2 and default gateway as 192.168.1.1
In Xp, u can do this by going to Start>Control Panel>Networking
here you'll find your LAN connection. Right click >properties>and configure TCP/IP
If your using linux , you should know this ...

STEP 3: Search for wireless networks , you should find a network with SSID WA1003A
Connect to the network , it should connect without any authentication

STEP 4: open up your browser , make sure that there is no proxy specified
goto 192.168.1.1 , you should see this , put in the password as admin and click log in

After you've put the password as 'admin' and log in you should something like this
and click on the pictures to view them in a new screen
goto setup
click on PVC0 on the left pane

Select the connection type as PPPoe and put in you username and password , make sure your username has "@dataone" and not @ dataone.in

MAke sure NAT and Set Route boxes are checked

Click on Apply after the changes

After doing this , navigate to the TOOLS Page

Go to the system commands page

Here click on save all and wait till your browser status bar says done , then click on restart , click OK on the dialog box which comes up...

wait for around one minute for the modem to restart , reconnect to the wireless network , and you should be online. :):)
